During my internship at Public School First NC, I partnered with a subject matter expert to conduct comprehensive research on the laws governing voucher programs and their impact on public school systems. Understanding that many people are unfamiliar with the complexities of vouchers, I focused on simplifying the findings to ensure accessibility for a general audience. This approach not only clarified key concepts but also illuminated the pressing inequality issues facing North Carolina’s public school system. Ultimately, my goal was to inspire the public to recognize these challenges and motivate them to take meaningful action for educational equity.

Needs Analysis
I collaborated with a subject matter expert at Public School First NC, who has extensive knowledge of the history and transformation of voucher programs, their budget implications, and their impact on the public education system. Together, we discussed strategies for simplifying the content while retaining crucial information. As a novice in this area, I aimed to adopt the perspective of the general public, ensuring accessibility for our target audience. As a designer, I learned to balance the SME's priorities with the essential elements needed to effectively convey the content.
Design Process
Transforming Written Content into Engaging Video Script
The initial draft of the voucher video script provided by the subject matter expert consisted of a lengthy article packed with excessive information and details, which was not well-suited for a video format. I engaged in a collaborative dialogue with the SME, offering insights based on my video editing and content expertise on how to make the information more compelling and engaging. Additionally, I utilized ChatGPT to help simplify the language into a more general format, allowing me to edit it efficiently and enhance the overall effectiveness of the script.
Infographic Redesign: Simplifying Complex Data for Better Understanding
The chart and image from the original resources are usually too complex to understand. I redesigned them to reduce cognitive load by presenting only the essential data and information that the audience needs to grasp quickly.
